A new movie called Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has surprised many people in the film industry. The movie, directed by Milap Zaveri and starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, was released during the busy Diwali holiday weekend.
It faced tough competition from the highly anticipated film, Thamma, but still managed to attract a good audience.
Harshvardhan Rane Scores a Career High
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat opened in a limited number of theaters. Despite the competition and the smaller release, the film has delivered surprisingly good numbers.
According to the box office tracking site Sacnilk, the film earned ₹8.50 crore (85 million Indian Rupees) on its very first day. This is a big win for lead actor Harshvardhan Rane because it is his largest opening day collection ever!
This new film has broken the record previously held by his well-known 2016 hit, Sanam Teri Kasam. That movie originally opened with only ₹1.30 crore. Even when it was re-released years later, it only managed to collect ₹4.25 crore on its opening day. With Deewaniyat earning ₹8.50 crore, Rane has successfully broken his own record.
Budget Helps the Film's Outlook
The film is expected to perform even better through the extended weekend due to positive reviews from people who have seen it (good word of mouth).
While the movie might see a drop in audience attendance on Friday (a normal working day), it is expected to jump back up on Saturday and Sunday.
One of the movie’s biggest advantages is its relatively low cost. Unlike Thamma, which was produced on a large scale, Deewaniyat had a modest budget of around ₹20 crore. Because of this controlled budget, earning ₹8.50 crore on Day 1 is considered a very strong performance.
If the film keeps its momentum, it is predicted that it will earn back its entire budget within the first week itself. If this happens, trade experts will be very surprised, and the film will be considered a definite "plus" (a profitable hit).
The Competition: Ayushmann Khurana's 'Thamma'
The other big film released during the Diwali weekend was Thamma, the fifth movie in the popular Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, was expected to have a huge opening, and it delivered.
Sacnilk reported that Thamma opened on a fantastic note, collecting ₹24.50 crore on its first day. You can get more details on the big-budget horror-comedy here: Thamma Box Office Day 1 Report.
Both films have had strong starts, showing that two different types of movies can find an audience during the holiday rush.
