Paresh Rawal Opens Up: “I’m Tired of Playing Baburao in Hera Pheri, It’s a Blessing and a Burden!”

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal recently revealed that the massive success of his iconic character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte from Hera Pheri has overshadowed his other roles. While he is loved for the role, Paresh admits that repeating the same character has made him feel creatively stuck — though he will soon return as Baburao in Hera Pheri 3 alongside Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty.

“Baburao’s Success Has Trapped Me” – Paresh Rawal

In a recent chat on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Paresh Rawal said,

“I’m tired of doing the same thing again and again. I feel stuck. People want to see only Baburao, and to please them, we keep repeating the same thing. When Rajkumar Hirani made Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., he showed those characters in a fresh way — and people loved it. But when you have a character with ₹500 crore goodwill, why not take risks and move forward?”

Paresh shared that while he truly loves Baburao, the role has become so popular that it overshadows his many other strong performances.

“People tell me Baburao is more famous than R.K. Laxman! It hurts when intelligent people also want to see the same thing again. I’m bored of that. Baburao has huge potential — people believe in everything he says.”

“I Rejected Fake Baburao Roles”

The actor also revealed that he has been offered several roles similar to Baburao — but he refused all of them.

“I never copied Baburao in any other film. Everyone wants to cash in on that character, but legally Baburao belongs to producer Firoz Nadiadwala. I can’t play that role anywhere else — and honestly, that limitation saved me.”

Paresh added that cinema should evolve and not keep repeating the same formula.

“Memories are important, but cinema must move forward — and so should its characters.”

After many creative and legal issues, Paresh Rawal has finally confirmed his return as Baburao in Hera Pheri 3. Fans will once again see the hilarious trio of Akshay Kumar (Raju), Suniel Shetty (Shyam), and Paresh Rawal (Baburao) back together on screen.
