Box Office Sunday Report: Mahavatar Narsimha Creates Historic Record, Other Films Show Slow Performance

The Indian box office had a busy weekend, with multiple films running in theatres and attracting audiences during the Raksha Bandhan festive period. But among all, one movie stole the show — Mahavatar Narsimha. On Sunday, the film recorded massive collections and created a new box office record for 2025.

Let’s look at how Mahavatar Narsimha performed and also check the Sunday business of other films like Son of Sardaar 2, Saiyaara, Udaipur Files, Andaaz 2, and Dhadak 2.

Mahavatar Narsimha – The Biggest Winner of the Weekend

For the past 17 days, Mahavatar Narsimha has been unstoppable at the box office. On Sunday, the film once again saw a huge jump, earning ₹22.75 crore. This is even more impressive considering that on Saturday it collected ₹20.25 crore.

With this, the film’s total box office collection stands at ₹168.65 crore in just 17 days. This outstanding performance has made Mahavatar Narsimha the sixth highest-grossing film of 2025 so far, after Chhava, Saiyaara, Housefull 5, Raid 2, and Sitare Zameen Par.

The film’s success is being credited to its grand visuals, engaging storytelling, and strong word-of-mouth publicity. Families, youngsters, and even senior citizens are turning up in large numbers to watch it, making it a true box office sensation.

Saiyaara – Still Strong After 24 Days

The romantic drama Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Anith Padda, has been another major success story of 2025. After 24 days in cinemas, the film is still collecting well.

On Sunday, Saiyaara earned ₹3.75 crore, slightly higher than its Saturday collection of ₹3.50 crore. This small growth shows that the film is enjoying steady footfalls due to positive audience feedback.

With a total of ₹318 crore in 24 days, Saiyaara is already one of the highest-grossing films of the year. While the film’s pace has slowed compared to its initial days, it continues to add to its lifetime total every weekend.

Son of Sardaar 2 – Disappointing Performance

Despite being backed by big names like Ajay Devgn, Son of Sardaar 2 has not lived up to expectations at the box office.

On Sunday, the film collected ₹3.38 crore, which is lower than Saturday’s ₹4 crore. This drop shows that the film is struggling to hold audience interest.

In 10 days, Son of Sardaar 2 has made ₹41.63 crore. Considering its high budget and star cast, this figure is disappointing. Trade experts believe the film needs a strong holiday or positive buzz to improve its numbers, but competition from other releases is making that difficult.

Udaipur Files – A Small Film with a Real Story

Udaipur Files, starring Vijay Raaz, is based on the shocking real-life murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur in 2022.

The film opened slowly, earning only ₹13 lakh on its first day. On Saturday, its business dropped sharply to just ₹1 lakh. However, Sunday saw a recovery, with collections back to ₹13 lakh.

So far, in three days, Udaipur Files has made ₹26 lakh in total. While these numbers are small, the film’s realistic theme may help it find more viewers in smaller towns and single screens.

Andaaz 2 – A Nostalgic Sequel

Directed by Sunil Darshan, Andaaz 2 is the sequel to the 2003 romantic drama Andaaz. This time, the film features new faces — Ayush Kumar, Kaysha, and Natasha Fernandes.

The film’s opening day collection was ₹12 lakh, followed by a stronger Saturday of ₹19 lakh. But Sunday saw a dip again, with ₹12 lakh in earnings.

After three days, Andaaz 2 has collected ₹43 lakh. While the movie has received some attention due to its connection with the original, the lack of big stars is affecting its performance.

Dhadak 2 – Holding Steady

The romantic drama Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri, has been performing steadily since its release.

On Sunday, it collected ₹1.75 crore, slightly more than Saturday’s ₹1.70 crore. The film’s weekend boost is keeping it afloat, and its total earnings after 9 days stand at ₹20.75 crore.

While not a blockbuster, Dhadak 2 is managing to survive in theatres due to its youthful appeal and music.

Sunday Box Office Summary

Here’s a quick look at the Sunday earnings of each film:

Mahavatar Narsimha 22.75 168.65 (17 days)
Saiyaara 3.75 318.00 (24 days)

Historic Day

Sunday proved to be a historic day for Mahavatar Narsimha, as it continued its dream run and crossed several milestones. Saiyaara also held strong, while Son of Sardaar 2 disappointed despite its star power.

Smaller films like Udaipur Files and Andaaz 2 struggled to make a big impact, and Dhadak 2 continued its average but stable journey.

With more big releases lined up in the coming weeks, the competition will only get tougher. But for now, Mahavatar Narsimha remains the undisputed king of the box office.
