The much-awaited Hrithik Roshan, Junior NTR, and Kiara Advani starrer War 2 is all set to hit the big screens on 14 August 2025. But even before its release, the film has gone through several changes after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) review.
The censor board has suggested multiple audio and visual cuts, changes in dialogues, and trimming of certain scenes. After these changes, War 2 has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate.
What Changes Did CBFC Ask For?
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has made the following demands:
- In six different places, the board has asked the makers to mute certain words and remove inappropriate references in both audio and visual form.
- In six places, dialogues have been changed to make them suitable for the U/A 16+ rating.
- A two-second shot showing a gesture by one of the actors has been completely removed, as the board felt it was not appropriate for public viewing.
These changes were necessary to make the film eligible for release in theatres without an “A” certificate.
Kiara Advani’s Bikini Scene – Cut Short
One of the most talked-about changes is related to Kiara Advani’s bikini scene. The CBFC reportedly asked the makers to reduce sensual scenes by 50%.
This includes cutting a 9-second footage from the film. Although the board has not officially confirmed which scene was cut, industry buzz suggests it could be from the song “Aavan Jawan”, where Kiara reportedly appears in a bold bikini look.
While fans were excited to see Kiara’s glamorous side in the film, the board’s decision means the final version in theatres will be more toned down.
Has the Runtime of War 2 Changed?
Yes. The original length of War 2 was 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 49 seconds. After the suggested cuts and edits, the final runtime has been reduced to 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 24 seconds.
This means the movie is now 6 minutes and 25 seconds shorter than the original version submitted to the CBFC.
Interestingly, the board did not demand any cuts in the action sequences. This means all the high-octane fight scenes between Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR will be shown in their full glory.
Why the U/A 16+ Certificate?
The CBFC grants a U/A 16+ certificate to films that may have strong language, mature themes, or intense scenes suitable only for viewers aged 16 and above.
In the case of War 2, the intense action, some suggestive scenes, and a few strong dialogues meant it could not get a simple U/A rating. The U/A 16+ ensures that younger audiences watch it under parental guidance.
War 2 – A Spy Action Blockbuster in the Making
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. The first film, starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, was a huge success and part of the YRF Spy Universe.
In War 2:
- Hrithik Roshan reprises his role as Kabir, an Indian spy.
- Junior NTR joins the universe as another powerful spy character.
- Kiara Advani plays an important role, bringing both glamour and action to the film.
The story will reportedly take the spy universe to a new level, with larger action set pieces, international locations, and a massive budget.
Action Scenes Remain Untouched
Fans of action films can relax – the CBFC has not made any cuts to the big fight sequences in War 2. This means viewers will still get to see the full action package, including:
- Hrithik Roshan vs Junior NTR hand-to-hand combat
- High-speed chases
- Large-scale explosions
- International spy missions
This is important because action is one of the main reasons fans are so excited for War 2.
Why Censor Cuts Happen
Censor cuts are common in big films, especially when they have:
- Bold or intimate scenes
- Strong language
- Violence or gestures considered inappropriate
- Political or religious references that might create controversy
The board’s goal is to make sure the film can be shown to a wider audience without violating certification rules. For War 2, the changes are mainly around suggestive content and certain dialogues.
War 2 vs Coolie – The Big Clash
War 2 is releasing on 14 August 2025, just a day before Independence Day. It will clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which also stars Aamir Khan and Shruti Haasan.
This has become one of the most talked-about clashes in recent years:
- Coolie has massive hype in South India and among Rajinikanth fans.
- War 2 has pan-India appeal due to Hrithik Roshan, Junior NTR, and the YRF Spy Universe branding.
Both films are big-budget action entertainers, and the box office results will be closely watched.
Fans React to the Censor News
When the news broke that the CBFC had trimmed scenes from War 2, fan reactions were mixed:
- Some fans were upset about Kiara’s bikini scene being cut short.
- Others felt the changes won’t affect the film’s overall entertainment value.
- Many were just relieved that the action scenes were untouched.
Social media comments included:
- “Why cut Kiara’s scene? It’s just a song!”
- “Glad the action is still intact. That’s what we’re here for.”
- “Censor board is too strict sometimes, but at least we still get War 2 this Independence Day.”
Will the Cuts Affect War 2’s Success?
While the cuts have made headlines, they are unlikely to hurt War 2’s box office potential. The film still has:
- Star power from Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR
- The YRF Spy Universe hype
- Big festival release date
- Untouched action sequences
In fact, sometimes such news can create even more curiosity, as people want to see what the buzz is about.
With just days left for release, War 2 is set to be one of the biggest action films of the year. The only question is – will it win the box office war against Rajinikanth’s Coolie?
